Hilton Head Fall Festival Season
The Hilton Head Fall Festival Season on Hilton Head Island and the South Carolina Lowcountry is in full swing! Last week was the very successful Chili Cook-off Festival at Historic Honey Horn. This weekend, October 16, 2010, is the Island Recreation Center’s Cajun Festival that will be held at Shelter Cove Park, mid Island Hilton Head Island. There will be great food and Cajun Music plus events for the kids. The Island Recreation Center is and has been a mainstay of the Hilton Head Island Area Community. It provides all kinds of activities from after school events, youth sports, all the way to adult sports. In the winter, the Island Recreation Center’s pool is covered to allow for year round swimming.
On Sunday, October 17, get your digs on and watch Polo the “Sport of Kings” at Rose Hill. This event is being sponsored by the Rotary Club for primary and secondary education. You may want to take an old pair of shoes for the stomping of the field.
The Hilton Head Fall Festival Season continues with the Concours d’Elegance and the Hilton Head Oyster Festival. We hope to see you at these events or maybe on the Beach or at the Sandbar on the River.
The Coastal Discovery Museum was established in 1985 with a mission to teach the public about the natural history and cultural heritage of the Lowcountry. The Museum makes learning about Hilton Head Island and the surrounding region a fun filled experience for the whole family. In 2007, the museum moved to historic Honey Horn and its 68 acres. Saturday, October 23, 2010, the Coastal Discovery Museum will celebrate its 25th Anniversary from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The event is free as a thank you to the public. At 11:00 am, there will be a Lowcountry animal exhibit and at noon there will be a demonstration of making sweet grass baskets. There is currently an exhibit at the Museum revolving around these baskets called “Grass Roots.” Click here for more on the exhibit. Take a tour of the butterfly enclosure and meet the Marsh Tacky mare and her foal. www.CoastalDiscovery.org
Man of La Mancha will run through Sunday night at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina www.ArtsHHI.com. This is a timeless classic about an eccentric knight, Don Quixote, and his faithful companion, Sancho.
To complete a fantastic fall weekend on Hilton Head Island, Monday you can sit back and enjoy the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra’s Halloween. This is the second concert of the 29th season of our orchestra. Monday night will feature works by Offenbach, “Orpheus in the Underworld,” Wagner, “Ride of the Valkyries” and Wendel, “A Halloween Trilogy” just to name a few. Click www.HHSO.org for additional information.
Hilton Head Island is much more than just great real estate opportunities. Hope to see you at some of these events!
