The weekend after the Heritage Golf Tournament, Hilton Head Island and the Coastal Discovery Museum hosted the “Art Market at Historic Honey Horn.” This year marks the 8th year for this event and 88 artists from 13 different states participated. They represented a wide variety of media. The Art Market was open both Saturday and Sunday for viewing and sales of the artists work. The artist’s tents were spread out under the 100 year old moss draped oaks of Honey Horn Plantation.

On Saturday night, there was a reception and awards presentation for the artists and the sponsors. Frances and Charles Sampson of the Charles Sampson Real Estate Group of Charter One Real Estate were the sponsors of one of the top three prizes. The winner of their award was John Gunther. Gunther is a weaver of hand dyed, hand woven wool or silk for wall or floor. Gunter is from Abingdon, Virginia and his web site is www.Guntherweavings.com. The Charles Sampson Real Estate Group was proud of once again being a title sponsor of the Art Market and part of the Coastal Discovery Museum.

If you have yet to visit Historic Honey Horn, you are in for a real treat. The property is 60 plus acres in the middle of world class Hilton Head Island where one can step back in time. The Discovery House, site of the museum exhibits, was built pre Civil War and was renovated and opened in 2007 as the museum. March was good with 22 Hilton Head Plantation homes and two Villas put under contract. 2010 continues to see improvement over the 2009 real estate market.
This improvement can be attributed to the weather, as noted, good bank rates, the Gov’t tax credits program-$8,000 for first time home buyers and the $6,500 credit for existing home owners who buy. To take advantage of these programs, a property must be under contract by April 30!

Property prices have continued to adjust downward which has made buying more
affordable. The good thing for sellers is that properties are selling if they are priced right and are in good condition.
