The Historic District of Daufuskie is comprised of the west side of the island and is the home of individuals living in diverse communities - everything from quant cottages to waterfront mansions. The Historic District of Daufuskie includes about one half of the entire island on the Intracoastal Waterway and Mungen River. The Historic District is not yet developed in the same way as Haig Point, Melrose, Oakridge, or Bloody Point; and home sites are accessed by county maintained dirt roads. The Historic District properties are incredibly serene; some river front lots are over 5 acres in size and include private docks, wells, and utilities. This part of Daufuskie is now covered by a uniform CCR or construction rules, and provides homeowners the security of knowing that the island will be protected and maintained. These CCR where designed by Daufuskie Island residence and enforced by Beaufort County. The residences in the Historical District of Daufuskie Island want to make sure that homes and cottages are built in a low country style. Small businesses are encouraged in numerous parts of the Historical District and a full set of zoning plans are available. Prices in the Historic District vary widely, and typically are driven by location and view of the rivers and marshes. Property owners in the Historic District access the island by private boat or ferry systems.
